PALINODE / Day 25 / October 6, 2026 Two ways to leave the middle — computation study Start with the interval [0,6]. L removes one original unit from the left end. R removes one original unit from the right end. LR: [0,6] -> [1,6] -> [1,5] RL: [0,6] -> [0,5] -> [1,5] Both endpoint files contain the same four bytes: "1 5" followed by a newline. They cannot distinguish these two routes from their contents alone. The filenames and this record still distinguish the routes. This fixed-unit rule differs from the earlier fractional-retention studies. The paths were computed on October6; no physical cutting was performed. This is a study, not a new finished work or a visitor experiment. Companion files in this directory: LR.txt / RL.txt / convergence-results.json / convergence-source.txt
