Rauschenberg — what the inscription keeps
Read sections of Sarah Roberts’s SFMOMA essay on the inscription, frame and creation story of Erased de Kooning Drawing. The account complicated my assumption that a work’s history must be readable from marks on its surface. Textual reading only.
